ospreyapplicationsllc@gmail.comFrequently Asked Questions
Is Flashing Light: Morse Trainer free?
The app is free to download. A single one-time purchase called "Full Access" ($9.99, no subscription) unlocks the Transmit drill, ICS code-group drill, Mock Exam, Receive drills above 4 WPM (5-8 WPM), and JSON progress export. You can use Learn, Receive at 4 WPM, Progress, and Review for free.
What does Full Access unlock, and is it a subscription?
Full Access is a one-time, non-consumable purchase - buy once, own forever, no subscription or recurring charge. It unlocks Transmit, ICS, Mock Exam, the 5-8 WPM Receive speeds (4 WPM is free), and progress export. It is Family Sharing-eligible.
I bought Full Access on another device (or reinstalled) and it's locked. How do I restore it?
Open the paywall or Settings and tap "Restore purchase" while signed into the same Apple ID you used to buy. Because it's a non-consumable, Apple restores it at no extra charge. If it still doesn't unlock, confirm your Apple ID and internet connection, then relaunch the app.
Does the app work offline, and does my data leave my device?
Yes - all training (Learn, Receive, Transmit, ICS, Mock Exam, Review) and your full history work offline and stay on your device. The only data that leaves the device is purchase information, handled by Apple and by RevenueCat (our purchase-management provider) solely to sell and restore Full Access. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no ads.
The lamp flashes are too intense or trigger discomfort. What can I do?
Open Settings and enable Reduced motion, Lower-intensity lamp mode, or Symbolic-only mode (which trains with no bright flash pulses). The app also shows a photosensitivity warning on first launch and can automatically honor your system Reduce Motion setting. If you have photosensitive epilepsy, please consult a medical professional before use.
What exam speeds and content does it cover?
Practice speeds range from 4 to 8 WPM (default 4; 4 WPM free, 5-8 WPM with Full Access). Content covers Morse letters and numbers, single-letter signals, SOS/distress, and ICS code groups tied to PUB 102 / International Code of Signals reference material. It targets USCG flashing-light competency rather than mimicking one specific official exam screen.
How do I back up or transfer my progress?
With Full Access, go to Settings -> Data -> Export progress to write a JSON file of your sessions, attempts, mastery stats, and settings, then share or save it via the standard share sheet. The app does not upload it anywhere - you control where it goes.
Is this app affiliated with the U.S. Coast Guard, and will it guarantee I pass?
No. It is an independent training aid from Osprey Applications LLC, not affiliated with or endorsed by the USCG or any agency, and it is not a substitute for official examination. It helps you practice; it can't guarantee a real-world exam result.
